In case you reside outside of Australia and haven’t heard, let’s just say we’re on the stricter end of the scale when it comes to living during COVID times.
Strict as in, our borders are CLOSED in 2020.
July and August saw me escaping Sydney’s winter as much as I could manage. It’s by no means intolerable or even unpleasant (think 60F mostly-sunny days, often with wind), but I really struggle with it after several months of hot beach days.
In what may have been the most spontaneous trip I’ve ever taken, last week I decided to join my good friend Marijs on a road trip from Sydney to Byron Bay.
I recently spent 5 days in Byron Bay, a beautifully chilled out beach town in northern New South Wales with a decidedly SoCal vibe. I can report that its popularity is justified: Byron Bay now ranks as one of my favorite places in all of Australia.
Gosh, May sure was delightful. I feel like I’m due for some travel mishaps and lowlights one of these days (but, you know, very happy to keep on living that highlight reel if they continue to spare me!).
I lay on a grassy knoll at Wategos Beach in a flowy skirt, head propped up on my backpack at an angle optimal for scoping out the surfers and setting sun in front of me, dozing off to the sweet croons of a guitarist nearby.
