If you’re traveling to Krabi, Thailand, odds are you’ll be looking to book one or more Krabi island tours while you’re there. And rightfully so – this whole region is just begging to be explored by boat with 200 or so islands around.
Not that I ever need an excuse to visit Thailand (it’s one of my all-time favorite countries!), but an invite to a Koh Samui wellness retreat center was enough for me to plan my 4th trip to the Land of Smiles.
If 2015 was the year of the nomad, then 2016 was definitely the year of the digital nomad.
Rather than aimlessly wandering around Australia for a second year, I decided to travel more slowly so that I actually had time to work and thoroughly enjoy my surroundings.
I wasn’t planning on blogging about my little Koh Tao beach excursion to Sai Nuan – it was meant to be a lazy day, a break from all the scuba diving and working, and so therefore I left my blogger’s cap collecting dust in my hotel room and hit the beach.
My impetuous trip to Thailand in June was all about the diving. So naturally, the initial plan was to fly from Sydney to Phuket and head straight to Koh Tao for the entire 10 days.
My time this month was almost equally split between Sydney and Southeast Asia. I wrapped up my Lane Cove house sit and flew to Thailand at the start of the second week of June to squeeze a visa run in before starting another two months of house sits in Sydney.
When you book an international flight semi-last minute and primarily because you found a good deal, you’re probably not going to do extensive research to prepare for this trip.
In my case, I booked a cheap flight from Sydney to Phuket about 2 weeks in advance because it was the most inexpensive, non-NZ international flight I could find within my desired date range.
There has been one very noticeable gap in my outdoor adventure resume. You’d think that in all my island hopping and Australian escapades over the years I’d have made more of an effort to explore the underwater world.
It’s been nearly a year now since I returned from my epic Asian journey, having completed my first multi-month solo female travel adventure.
Do I miss life on the perpetual road?
I pride myself in crafting excellent, if not over-planned, trips. But planning a 5-month long trip to Asia was beyond anything I’ve endeavored before.
Not to toot my own horn, but I think I did a pretty damn good job researching and planning out my route.
