More than a little overshadowed by the Blue Mountains and the Royal, Ku-ring-gai is another national park just outside of Sydney that NO ONE ever seems to talk about.
Sure, maybe it’s a little bit smaller, and slightly less dramatic than its counterparts… but Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park boasts bushwalks, rainforests, mangroves, Aboriginal sites, and beaches galore.
In terms of bucket list experiences, the magnificent Sydney Harbour should have a place on everyone’s list.
The Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge are iconic landmarks that everyone should lay eyes on in person at least once in their life, but the rest of Sydney Harbour is worth seeing as well.

With the popularity of Manly Beach and the Spit to Manly walk, I’m really surprised that more people don’t know about another awesome Sydney Harbour walk in the area.
The Manly to North Head walk (technically called the North Head Sanctuary Loop) is an ~8km walking track that starts from above Shelly Beach and loops up and around to the end of North Head, aka the outermost point of Sydney Harbour.
When I first arrived in Australia over 4 years ago, the Overland Track in Tasmania was on the top of my hiking to-do list. And rightfully so, as it’s pretty renowned for its epic-ness.
The Great Barrier Reef gets most of the glory when it comes to diving in Australia, but you know what? There are actually better dive locations in this country for spotting some exceptionally cool creatures: think whale sharks in Ningaloo Reef, and great white sharks in Port Lincoln.
I don’t know what or why it is, but for the past year I’ve had such terrible luck with weather on most of the weekend trips I had planned. Like, terrible to the point that I ended up pulling out of a few of them at the last minute due to a very-depressing weather forecast – including my own birthday camping trip last year!
